Springfield Public Schools, SAAB and five local banks are coming together to enhance financial literacy programming for SPS high school students.
New for the 2023-2024 school year, Banking on SAAB/SPS is an immersive financial literacy program for high school students. SPS SAAB members from all five SPS high schools and Launch Virtual Learning will complete six experiences over the course of the school year, each focusing on the financial industry.
“SAAB is beyond grateful for the unwavering support and commitment from our five local bank partners and SPS,” said Dr. Tyrone Bledsoe, CEO of SAAB. “Together, we’re going to launch an amazing financial literacy program initiative, with unsurpassed lifelong value for our participants at SPS SAAB (B2B) high schools.”
Five of these in-depth experiences will be visits to local banks, who have partnered with SAAB and SPS to introduce students to financial concepts and careers in finance.
Banking on SAAB/SPS Bank Partners:
- Arvest Bank
- Central Bank of the Ozarks
- Commerce Bank
- Great Southern Bank
- Simmons Bank
Over the course of five half-day visits to local banks, Banking on SAAB/SPS participants will learn about taxes, creating a budget, harnessing the power of interest, protecting against financial risk by insuring, investment instruments and so much more.
On March 22, SPS SAAB participants from all five high schools will come together for a culminating all-day activity, where students will work alongside industry professionals to experience and work through financial scenarios.
“Banking on SAAB/SPS is an example of the power of strategic, impactful community partners,” said Superintendent Grenita Lathan. “When our business leaders invest in our students with skills and mentorship, they support success-ready students to make positive choices long after high school. This program’s collaborative approach supports the district’s Strategic Plan and focus on providing real-world educational opportunities for all students. We’re proud to partner with SAAB to make this learning experience possible.”
